This article describes the people and forests in traditional Secwépemc territory Interior Plateau of British Columbia (BC), Canada. It examines intersection neoliberal forest policy profound ecological change south-central region province, with careful attention paid to wider contexts settler colonialism. The critiques implementation reform (the Forest Range Practices Act, enacted 2004) as it coincided one first major climate events landscape-altering magnitude BC – mountain pine beetle outbreak. Between 1998 2014, outbreak resulted tree mortality for roughly half mature lodgepole trees province. left an expanse ‘deadwood’ on landscape, leading heightened social political conflict over how beetle-affected areas were managed.
